Stimulation Play Adventure Creativity Education
Where did it come from?
SP4CE was created when a group of like-minded people saw a need for a holistic and cost effective approach to community engagement, education, training and the arts. The demise of Creative Partnerships and their work in schools left a void in the area of inspirational learning for young people. That, coupled with a need to reduce the carbon footprint from local businesses has led to the involvement of key partners including Walsall Council, WHG and Education Services and the creation of SP4CE.
What we are
SP4CE is a Creative Hub which provides a scrap store, community meeting place, workshops and training for Walsall people. It works with families, individuals and organisations (schools, children’s centres, day nurseries, child minders, training providers, artists, parents, playgroups, out of school groups, youth centres.) The work of SP4CE is governed by community consultation which focuses its services around the user. It is a not-for-profit social enterprise business.
What we do
As a registered waste carrier SP4CE reclaims locally sourced waste materials, then sorts, prepares and provides them to local settings, schools, organisations and families through its scrap store facility. We operate a membership scheme from £15 for an individual to £70 for a school to join for a year. Recycled materials are purchased per bag (£10/£25) or as individually priced items. These materials provide stimulating resources for creative work at a small cost e.g. 50 CDs for £3.
We are pleased to announce that from September 2013 we are offering joint membership with Walsall Toy Library. This will enable members to access high quality and engaging toys, alongside intelligent, stimulating materials and resources.
Sp4ce to hire
SP4CE has rooms which are available to hire for meetings, events and training. The Centre is centrally located on an Industrial Estate in Bloxwich a few minutes drive from J10 of the M6 and the centre of Walsall. It has good public transport links and on-site-parking. Please enquire for availability and room hire rates.
SP4CE is currently developing training courses for a number of sectors. Our major focus will be working with play specialists to use the resources/environment to train other professionals, parents and voluntary groups to create inspirational play opportunities for children. Other specialist training providers will be commissioned to provide creative and functional courses such as Artists, Forest Arts, Early Years Pedagogy alongside mandatory courses such as First Aid, Health and Safety, Child Protection. Pre-employment programmes are currently supporting young adults adults for work readiness and access to further education pathways.
We will work with educational product and service providers who share our passion for high quality provision. This will be done by providing a forum for sharing new materials, technologies and support for groups accessing the facilities. The Centre will also provide an online Hub for parents, trainers and specialists for sharing best practice and accessing resources and training material. This will be accessed on site in the ICT provision and at home.
